Biography

Matthew Machemer is Associate Kantor at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana where he directs several choirs, works with instrumentalists, assists in worship planning for the chapel, is organist for regular chapel services and special events, and serves as an instructor for various courses. He also teaches for the summer organist workshops and assists in the planning and administration of the seminary’s annual Good Shepherd Institute. Machemer is also the adult choir director for St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne and is a member of the Worship and Spiritual Care Committee for the Indiana District of the LCMS.

Machemer attended Concordia University Chicago (River Forest), graduating in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education; emphasizing in choral pedagogy. He also holds a Masters in Church Music from Concordia University Wisconsin where he specialized in organ performance. He has studied organ with Dr. Steven Wente, Dr. James Freese, Mr. Wayne Petersen and Mr. Robert Hobby. Before joining the staff at the seminary, Machemer served as Kantor of Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church and School from 2010–2014. Before that time he served as a church musician and music educator for parishes in Michigan and Illinois.

Machemer is also is a published composer, with works available for voices, instruments, organ, and piano through Concordia Publishing House. He has presented on a variety of and theological topics at various conferences, has been featured on KFUO radio, and has served as Cantor for the DOXOLOGY program of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He has presented recitals and hymn festivals at the seminary and around the country.

Machemer lives in Fort Wayne Indiana with his wife, Andrea, and their four lovely children, Noah, Ella, Henry, and Winston.
