Advent Preaching Workshop
November 5, 2013
Theme: Making the Tree Good
This workshop will offer an in-depth study of Matthew’s Gospel with special attention to the image of the tree. First, the tree is given a genealogical character in Matthew 3. In his baptismal ministry, John, the Forerunner of Jesus, likens the Pharisees to a dead tree that is about to be cut down at the roots. Second, the image of the tree has a place in Jesus’ own preaching as He describes His mission in terms of “making the tree good” (Matt. 12:33). Finally, the image of the tree comes to its fulfillment in Jesus’ cross where the good tree bears its good fruit.
The workshop will meet from 1:30-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5.
Presenter: Dr. James G Bushur
Registration fee: $40 (includes evening meal)
Location: Wyneken Hall W-12
