Notes on A Prelude on the Babylonian Captivity of the Church
Hieronymus Emser (1477-1527), born in Ulm, Germany. Studied in Tübingen and Basel.
A polemicist who engaged Luther and Zwingli in pamphlet warfare. Helped to reform the
catholic church in Germany. Published a version of Luther's New Testament that corrected
what he saw as errors in theology and translation, thereby attracting Luther's wrath
and the charge of plagarism.
