After graduating from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1971, Dr. Wenthe was assistant professor at Concordia Theological Seminary of Springfield-Fort Wayne from 1971-1977. He received his Th.M. from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1974. He was pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church, Atlantic, Iowa, 1977-1980. He received his Ph.D. in Hebrew Scriptures from the University of Notre Dame with minors in Ethics and Judaica. He served on the Commission of Theology and Church Relations 1977-1980, and is currently a member of the President's Commission on the Sanctity of Life. He also served for seven years as Pastoral Assistant at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven, Indiana, prior to being elected President.
